Valuable medicinal and food properties of a glycyrrhiza are known from an extreme antiquity. The traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine widely applies this plant. The center of an origin of a glycyrrhiza – the Mediterranean, Asia and Central Asia. On the Great silk way she got into China and further into Tibet where well got accustomed, and then stepped far away from Central Asia, appeared in Western Europe and America where earlier did not grow. People were attracted by sweet roots, and there is no wonder: consider that they are 40 times more sweet than sugar. Therefore the cleared roots were chewed with great pleasure - sugar was a rarity. This custom remained in North America before recent time where the glycyrrhiza was called a liquorice or a licorice root.
