Coolant Freon Du Pont Freon - 134a Dyupont.

Chemical formula CF3CFH2 (tetraftoretan). ODP ozone destruction potential = 0, potential of global warming of GWP = 1300. Physical properties of R134a are given in the table below.

 

Freon Freon - 134a R134a is nontoxical Du Pont (Dyupont) and does not ignite in all range of temperatures of operation. However at hit of air in system and compression gas mixtures can be formed. It is not necessary to mix R134a with R12 as azeotropny mix of a high pressure with mass fractions of components 50 and 50 of % is formed. Pressure of saturated steam of this coolant is slightly higher, than at R12 (respectively 1, 16 and 1, 08 MPas at 45os). R134a steam decays under the influence of a flame with formation of the poisoning and irritating connections, such as ftorvodorod.
On classification of ASHRAE this product belongs to the class A1. In the medium temperature equipment (temperature of boiling of - 7 os above) R134a has the operational characteristics close to R12.
Are characteristic of R134a the small temperature of forcing (it on average on 8. . . 10 os are lower, than for R12) and low values of pressure of saturated steam.
In the refrigeration units working at temperatures of boiling lower than - 15 os, power indicators of R134a it is worse, than at R12 (specific volume refrigerating capacity is 6% less at - 18 os), and refrigerating coefficient. In such installations it is expedient to apply coolants with lower normal temperature of boiling or the compressor with the increased hour volume described by pistons.
The refrigerating coefficient of R134a is equal to coefficient for R12 in medium temperature refrigeration units and air conditioning systems or above it.
In high - temperature refrigeration units specific volume refrigerating capacity during the work on R134a is also slightly higher (for 6% at t0 = than 10 os), than at R12.
Because of the considerable potential of global warming of GWP it is recommended to apply R134a in tight refrigerating systems. Influence of R134a on greenhouse effect is 1300 times stronger, than at CO2. So, emission in the atmosphere of one gas station R134a from the household refrigerator (about 140 g) corresponds to emission of 170 kg of CO2. In Europe on average 448 g of CO2 are formed by production of 1 kWh of energy, i. e. this emission corresponds to production of 350 kWh of energy.
For work with R134a coolant only polyester refrigerating oils which are characterized by the increased hygroscopicity are recommended.

 

Freon - 134a Du Pont (Dyupont) R134a widely use freon around the world as the main replacement of R12 for the refrigerating appliances working in the medium temperature range. It is applied in automobile conditioners, household refrigerators, the trade refrigerating medium temperature appliances, plants, air conditioning systems in buildings and industrial rooms, and also on refrigerating transport. Coolant can be used also for a retrofit of the equipment working at lower temperatures. However in this case, if not to replace the compressor, then the refrigerating system will have the lowered refrigerating capacity.
