An important role in work of healthcare institutions is played now by low-temperature methods of sterilization to which also the sterilization method ozone belongs.
Ozone is one of the strongest natural oxidizers. In work of ozone sterilizers property of gaseous ozone capable at certain concentration to destroy all known species of microorganisms, bacteria and dispute is used.
In practice of work of medical institutions the sterilization method by ozone is more and more applied to sterilization of medical tools. Sterilization with use of ozone is low-temperature in comparison with classical methods where temperature reaches above 100ºС.
Application of this method of sterilization is connected with lack of the following problems: big time of sterilization; difficulties of utilization of reagents, their adverse influence on environment; need of removal of traces of the sterilizing agent from tools and the equipment, washing in sterile water or long aeration by sterile air; adverse influence of the sterilizing substances and their derivatives on health of the personnel making sterilization.
The technology of ozone sterilization is characterized: low temperature of gas (room) during a sterilizing cycle, low energy consumption, does not demand the expendables (except medical oxygen) which are subject to utilization does not demand washing of products or aeration after a sterilizing cycle. Treat advantages of ozone sterilization: environmentally friendly and safe technology of sterilization; simplicity of service; lack of balancing and commissioning. Ozone after the termination of a sterilizing cycle is converted into oxygen.
